The Gainesville Ripper, later identified as Danny Rolling, was a serial killer who terrorized the city of Gainesville, Florida in 1990. Over the course of several days, Rolling claimed the lives of five young people, including four college students and one teenager. His methods were brutal and shocking, involving mutilation, rape, and murder. The first victims were two University of Florida students, Sonja Larson and Christina Powell, who were found murdered in their apartment. The next day, another student, Christa Hoyt, was found dead in her apartment, with similar mutilations and injuries. The final two victims were a teenager, Tracy Paules, and her boyfriend, Manuel Taboada, who were found murdered in their home. The killings sparked a massive manhunt, with police and FBI agents working around the clock to catch the killer. In 1991, Danny Rolling was arrested in Ocala, Florida, after a traffic stop. He would eventually be linked to the Gainesville murders, as well as several other crimes in Louisiana and Mississippi. Rolling was executed in 2006 for his crimes. The Gainesville Ripper's crimes had a profound impact on the city, leaving a lasting sense of fear and trauma. However, the community came together to support the victims' families and to heal from the wounds inflicted by the killer.
