The Gainesville Ripper, later identified as Danny Rolling, was a serial killer who terrorized the city of Gainesville, Florida, in August 1990. Over the course of four days, Rolling murdered five college students, including two women and three men, in a brutal and calculating manner. The first victim, Sonja Larson, was found dead on August 24, 1990, followed by Christina Powell, who was discovered on August 25. The next day, two more victims, Christa Hoyt and Tracy Paules, were found, and on August 28, the body of the final victim, Manny Taboada, was discovered. The investigation into the murders was extensive, with the Gainesville Police Department working in conjunction with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and the FBI. The case was highly publicized, and the community was on high alert as the killer remained at large. Eventually, on September 7, 1990, Rolling was arrested in Ocala, Florida, after a massive manhunt. He was subsequently linked to the murders through DNA evidence and was sentenced to death for his crimes. Rolling was executed by lethal injection on October 25, 2006.
