A Brevard County man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after three dead dogs were found in his trailer. Donnell Smith, the boyfriend of a woman who was killed by dogs last month, was taken into custody.

Smith has been charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty, including animal cruelty causing death, pain or suffering, unlawful confinement of animals without food or water, animal abandonment, and unlawful confinement of animals with no exercise or air.

Investigation

The discovery of the dead dogs was made after deputies received a tip about a foul odor coming from the trailer. The trailer, located on Blue Bonnet Drive, was shared by Smith and his late girlfriend, Jodi Cowan, who was fatally attacked by a neighbor's dogs on May 19.
